Lynchburg, Va. -- Graduate student Natalie Deacon raced to sixth place in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field 1-mile championship in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday, earning her second All-American honor in as many years in the event.
Deacon finished the mile in 4:59.06, chasing down competitors to climb into sixth on the last lap. She snuck into the final race as the 10th qualifyer from preliminaries, also charging late to get to the final day.
Deacon earned All-South/Southeast Region awards at the 1-mile, 800m, 3,000m, and as a member of the distance medley relay for the Hornets. She helped lead the team to third at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships. She will now turn her attention to the outdoor season, looking to repeat as a 1,500-meter All-American.
