Lynchburg College and the NCAA Celebrates D-III Week
LYNCHBURG, VA – Lynchburg College and the NCAA is celebrating D-III Week, which honors the Division III athletic mission that emphasizes the student-athlete.
Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with a Division III institution to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community.
The LC community is participating in several events during the week to celebrate. There are several sports in action this week at home. The men’s tennis team kicks things off on Tuesday with a home match against Greensboro College beginning at 3 p.m. On Wednesday, Roanoke College is coming over for three events. Baseball and women’s tennis begin at 3 p.m. and the women’s lacrosse game is at 7 p.m. Both tennis teams are back in action on Saturday, as they host Guilford College at 9 a.m. The men’s lacrosse team will host Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday night at 7 p.m. and the softball team faces Roanoke for Senior Day Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Other events will also take place the following week, with the big event coming on Saturday April 20. The LC men's lacrosse team is holding a Play Day Clinic all morning for local high school players, the LC women's soccer team is hosting Liberty University and VMI in a Play Day in the afternoon, and then the men's lacrosse team will have a game at 7 p.m. that evening. Baseball has a home double-header that day and a three-on-three basketball tournament will be held in Turner Gymnasium as well. The theme for April 20 is Freedom to Play, with the goal to raise awareness of children trapped in slavery.
The NCAA has also issued certificates to student-athletes with a cumulative QPA of over 3.0. Lynchburg had over 230 athletes receiving awards. For the full list please click on this list.
