LC Baseball Scores Four in Seventh Inning, Defeats Greensboro 5-2

LYNCHBURG, VA – Using a four-run seventh inning, the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Greensboro College 5-2 in non-conference play at Lynchburg City Stadium on Wednesday night.

The game which featured strong pitching on both sides was deadlocked at one until the seventh inning.

Greensboro got on the board in the first inning off an RBI-double Steven Pfeiffer. LC tied up the game in the bottom of the fifth off a sacrifice fly from sophomore Zach Fitzpatrick.

The Pride added a tally in the top of the seventh to lead 2-1, but Lynchburg scored four in the bottom of the frame. Junior Michael Kenah doubled in a run to knot the game at two and a couple batters later with the bases loaded, junior Dan Savage drew a walk to put LC up 3-2. An error from Greensboro allowed two runs to score, putting the Hornets up by a final of 5-2.

Sophomore Michael Mansfield worked seven innings, giving up just one earned run and striking out seven while registering the win. Freshman Brandon Miller continued his impressive streak on the mound, pitching two innings for the save while not relinquishing a hit or run.

Brian Robbett took the loss for Greensboro (17-11) on the mound.

Lynchburg (19-6/6-2 ODAC) hosts N.C. Wesleyan College on Friday at 3 p.m. on Fox Field.
