Lynchburg Baseball Tames Methodist in 7-6 Victory
LYNCHBURG, VA – With help from a five-run first inning, the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Methodist University on Wednesday afternoon 7-6 in non-conference play. LC has now won 10-straight games this season.
In the first inning, senior Richard Palase scored off a throwing error for the first run of the game. A few batters later, Arrowood doubled down the right field line with the bases loaded, scoring all three runners. Junior Ashton Paige singled in the inning as well, making it a 5-0 lead for the Hornets in the first frame.
Methodist registered a run in the top of the third, but Kenah doubled down the right field line in the fourth scoring Palase, pushing the lead to 6-1.
Brandon Thigpen hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth to pull within two while Methodist scored one in the top of the sixth, making the score 6-5 in favor of LC.
Kenah singled in the sixth inning, scoring Palase once again. Thigpen hit a solo shot in the top of the ninth with two outs to pull the Monarchs within one, but freshman Brandon Miller struck out the last batter, leading to a 7-6 win for the Hornets.
Senior Jared Millner earned the win after pitching five innings and only giving up four runs. Miller picked up his third save of the season.
Michael Judge started the game for the Monarchs (17-16), but took the loss. Matt Quick added an RBI for Methodist.
Lynchburg (24-6/9-2 ODAC) hosts Bridgewater College for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
