LC Baseball Defeats Ferrum 4-3

Sophomore James Womack pitched eight solid innings on Tuesday night as the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Ferrum College 4-3 in non-conference play.  Womack limited the Panthers to three hits and one earned run.

Lynchburg put up three early runs in the first inning for the initial lead. Junior Dan Savage continued his impressive hitting with a two-run triple to left field who then scored off an RBI-double from sophomore Dustin Arrowood.

Womack kept the Panthers in check until the seventh inning when they scored a run off an RBI-single. Junior Brock Shiflett singled in senior Richard Palase during the eighth inning, while LC held to a 4-1 lead.

Ferrum rallied in the eighth for two runs, both of which came unearned. With the bases loaded in the ninth inning, freshman Matt Outman induced a popup to end the game. Outman picked up his first career save.

Daniel Alvarez led the Panthers (20-15) with one RBI, while Chris Walker took the loss.

Lynchburg (29-7/13-3 ODAC) hosts Washington & Lee University on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. for senior day. The Hornets game with Christopher Newport scheduled for Wednesday afternoon has been cancelled.
