LC Baseball Dispatches Hampden-Sydney 8-1 in Game One of the ODAC Tournament
LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior Robert Garrett pitched a complete game on Thursday as the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Hampden-Sydney College 8-1 in the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. Lynchburg plays the loser of the game between Emory & Henry College and Randolph-Macon College Friday at 3 p.m. in Lynchburg City Stadium.
Garrett relinquished only one run and allowed just one walk while striking out three, earning his seventh win of the year.
After three scoreless innings, Hampden-Sydney struck first in the top of the fourth with an RBI-double from Beau Flinchum to lead 1-0.
Sophomore Dustin Arrowood registered the first run for Lynchburg in the bottom of the inning with an RBI-groundout, scoring junior Brock Shiflett. With the score tied 1-1 in the fifth frame, LC put up four runs to go up 5-1.
With runners on first and second, senior Richard Palase bunted and beat out the throw which went into the bullpen, allowing two runners to score. Junior Michael Del Buono and junior Dan Savage followed it up with an RBI each to end the four-run inning. Savage finished the game going 3-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
In the seventh inning, Del Buono singled in Kenah which was followed by an RBI-double from Savage to left center. Extending the lead to 8-1, sophomore Zach Fitzpatrick registered a sacrifice fly in the frame, scoring Savage.
Zach Whitaker took the loss for the Tigers (13-26), pitching 6.1 innings.
