Six Hornets Dot All-State Baseball Team
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Lynchburg College had six student-athletes recently named to the 2012 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State Baseball Team, and freshman Brandon Miller was chosen as the Rookie of the Year.
Miller, Dan Savage and Robert Garrett were all first-team selections. Miller, an All-South Region and All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Second Teamer, tied for the ODAC lead in wins with eight and tied for fourth in strikeouts despite logging most of his innings from the pen. He finished the year with an 8-1 mark and a 1.88 ERA, adding four saves while holding opponents to a .235 batting average.
Savage, a junior third baseman, earned first-team All-ODAC and second-team all-region honors this spring. He tied for the conference lead in doubles, was second in RBI and tied for third in hits.
Garrett threw two complete-game victories in four days to take home the 2012 ODAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player Award, helping LC to its first title since the 1990 season. He earned second-team all-conference and all-region honors after tying for the conference lead in wins.
Michael Kenah, Richard Palase and Brock Shiflett all landed spots on the second-team. Kenah, a junior shortstop, hit .372 this season and ranked in the ODAC top 10 in three offensive categories. Palase, a recent draftee of the Seattle Mariners organization, was a first-team All-ODAC honoree and led the conference in runs. Shiflett, also a first-team all-ODAC selection, hit .336 in his junior campaign.
Lynchburg finished the season 34-10, setting the program and conference record for most wins in a season.
