Hornet Baseball Players Compete in Summer Leagues
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball program has seen players take on summer league assignments in past years and this summer is no exception as at least seven Hornets are competing in various leagues.
Trevor Johnston has started on the mound for the Central Virginia BlueSox of the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League (CVCL) and was sporting a 1.66 ERA in 12 2/3 innings when he moved to the Valley Baseball League to play for the Rockbridge Rapids along with fellow pitcher Zac Patrick.
Lincoln Evans is also playing in the CVCL for the Roanoke Rails and is maintaining a .278 batting average with two runs scored and two RBI in 12 games. He is shining from the leadoff spot so far this summer, walking eight times against five strikeouts for a .435 on base percentage.
A pair of rising sophomores find themselves playing in two leagues this summer. Drew Taylor is playing in the Coatesville Adult-Collegiate Baseball League for the SNC-Lavelin Longhorns as well as the Lionville Hillcats in the Chester County American Legion Baseball League.
Taylor has a .375 batting average in five games with two RBI and a .500 on base percentage for the Longhorns while providing solid defense for both the Longhorns and Hillcats.
Matt Matthews is playing for the Myrtle Beach Marauders of The Beach League and has thrown exceptionally well through four starts thus far. Following the conclusion of the beach season, he is planning to play for Lynnhaven Baseball in Virginia Beach.
Ryan Henson is playing for American Legion Post 1995 in Northern Virginia while Andrew Gauvain is suiting up for the Litchfield Cowboys of the Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League. Gauvain's Cowboys are currently on a three-game winning streak to pull their record to .500.
