HOW IT HAPPENED
Lynchburg struck the first blow Sunday when Allen singled home freshman shortstop Parker Shaffer (Richmond, Va.) in the top of the third inning.
LC doubled the lead an inning later when Powell's sacrifice bunt brought home Ward on a safety squeeze play.
Piedmont finally got to Hornets senior right-hander David Goulding (Lynchburg, Va.) for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, breaking up the shutout bid with a sacrifice fly and taking the lead on Tyler Burdette's two-out, two-run single.
LC got a runner in scoring position in the seventh with two outs but couldn't bring him around and went down in order in the final two innings, failing to make use of two shutout relief innings from freshman righty Michael Reiskind (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).
Lynchburg will hit the road again to continue late-season non-conference play at Greensboro, Tuesday, April 24 at 6 p.m. The Pride beat LC, 8-4, on April 3.
