Charlottesville, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian program began its Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association season Saturday with a fifth-place team finish at the University of Virginia IHSA show at The Barracks Farm.

Lynchburg totaled 16 points on the day, led by junior Dani Herzberg (Beachwood, Ohio), who won a blue ribbon in the Intermediate Flat and took sixth place in Open Fences, tallying enough points to be the show's reserve high point rider.

Senior Julia Cavagna (Stafford, Va.) placed fourth in Walk Trot Canter and qualified for IHSA regionals in the event.

Senior Paige Gaut (Spotsylvania, Va.) placed second on the flat in Walk Trot.

Sophomore Hannah Sutphin (Easton, Md.) and freshman Taylor Herzog (Williamsburg, Va.) also earned ribbons at the show. Herzog took fifth on the Intermediate Flat, and Sutphin was sixth in Walk Trot Canter.

Lynchburg's equestrian team will compete again Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Bridgewater IHSA in Bridgewater, Va.
