LC Field Hockey Escapes With 3-1 Win over Shenandoah in ODAC Semifinals
Hornets Look for Seventh-Straight Conference Title Sunday

LYNCHBURG, VA – The top-seeded Lynchburg College field hockey team scored two late goals to win a tough 3-1 victory over #5 Shenandoah University Thursday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament.

The LC Hornets had several scoring opportunities early, but Sarah Clare made seven first-half saves, including one on a penalty stroke. Despite out-shooting and out-cornering SU by totals of 18-6 and 7-2 in the first half, it took 34:40 to notch a goal. Following a penalty corner, LC sophomore Kelsey Link found the back of the cage from Lindsay Leonard with just 20 seconds remaining before intermission.

The SU Hornets scored after halftime as Sarah DeLuca tapped in an Alexandra Darrow feed at the 41:39 mark and the game remained tied at one for the next 25 minutes. After an SU green card which put LC a player up for two minutes, Link fed the ball across the crease to sophomore Katie Kline who chipped it into the bottom left corner. Link also had an assist on LC's last goal, finding Leonard behind the defense for an insurance tally with just 50 ticks left on the clock.

For the game, Lynchburg out-shot Shenandoah 31-9 and held a 12-5 edge in penalty corners. Clare finished with 10 saves, while LC keeper Jordan A. Seeley made three saves.

The Hornets (16-3) will host Randolph-Macon College Sunday at 1 p.m. in a re-match of last year's ODAC title game. The Yellow Jackets defeated #3 Bridgewater College 2-1 in overtime in the other semi-final contest.
