The Lynchburg College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our Hornet of the Week. The tenth student-athlete selected this year is field hockey senior Shelly Milks.
For the fourth time in her career, Shelly helped the Lynchburg field hockey team win the ODAC title. She was a dominant force in the two tournament games, setting up the Hornet attack and shutting down opposing chances. For her efforts, she was named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team.
What do you like most about LC field hockey?
My favorite thing about LC field hockey is my teammates. We always have fun when we are all together and my best friends at school are on the team. They are my family when I'm away from home and I know that we'll keep in touch even after we graduate.
What is your favorite moment thus far as a Hornet?
It is really hard to pick just one, but one of my favorite moments as a Hornet was when we beat Franklin and Marshall my junior year. They were undefeated, the higher ranked team and were predicted to win. We knew that we were the underdogs so we came out played like we had nothing to lose and ended up winning 5 to 0.
What are your aspirations after graduation?
I want to go to graduate school at Lynchburg and get my doctorate in physical therapy.
Why did you choose Lynchburg College?
My sister actually went to LC and played field hockey so I was always visiting the campus. I wanted to play field hockey in college and I knew that LC had a good team, and I also wanted to do physical therapy and Lynchburg was just getting a doctorate program. Lynchburg had everything that I wanted so it seemed like the perfect choice for me.
