Four Field Hockey Hornets Named All-Region

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team caps off the 2012 season that saw the Hornets go 19-4 while capturing the seventh straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title with four players named All-South Region.

Senior co-captains Shelly Milks and Lindsay Leonard were named to the first team, while juniors Melanie Tenney and Nicole Marburger made the second team.

Milks, the three-time ODAC Player of the Year, finished her senior season with 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. She is third in the conference in points, second in assists, and fifth in goals. Her leadership has been paramount for the Hornets as she leads the offense while contributing on defense as well.

Leonard has led the ODAC in goals the past two seasons. She has remained a strong offensive presence for the Hornets this season, slamming 22 goals into the back of the cage. Leonard finishes her Lynchburg career with 79 goals, good for sixth in school history.

Tenney and Marburger have both provided strong leadership ability along the back line to limit the opposing team to very few opportunities to score. The LC defense has given up 0.95 goals against per game with 11 shutouts.

Tenney has a goal on the season, coming on a penalty stroke against Roanoke. She also leads the team with five defensive saves. Her nine career defensive saves are good for eighth on the LC all-time list.

Marburger has contributed a lot in the offensive end this season, coming up to participate in penalty corners. The junior has four goals and five assists on the year, including game-winners against Roanoke and York College (Pa.).
