Hornet Field Hockey Scores 6-3 Win over Randolph-Macon

LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore Courtney Gillette scored twice Sunday to lead Lynchburg College to a 6-3 victory over Randolph-Macon College in a battle of undefeated team in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings.

LC opened a 2-0 lead in the first half on tallies from Katie Kline and Catherine Rogerson and entered intermission with a two-goal lead.

Lauren Seal found the back of the cage quickly after intermission for the Yellow Jackets, and Lynchburg's Morgan Lammando scored three minutes later on an assist by Kline. RMC's Rachel Gardner made the score 3-2 with an unassisted goal, but Gillette answered with back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 5-2.

Abby Bunting from LC and Catherine Pricone from Randolph-Macon added late goals.

The Hornets had a slight 24-23 edge in total shots and held a 10-7 advantage in penalty corners. Jordan Seeley and Hannah Myers combined to make 10 stops for LC, while Steph Talley made 11 saves for R-MC (7-6/5-1 ODAC). Olivia Newman made a pair of defensive saves for the Yellow Jackets.

Lynchburg (8-4/3-0 ODAC) hosts Sweet Briar College Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
