Lynchburg Rings in Homecoming with 4-2 Win over Centre

LYNCHBURG, VA – Early goals paved the way for victory as the Lynchburg College field hockey team took down Centre College in non-conference action 4-2 to start off LC Homecoming Weekend.

Kelli Williams started the scoring for Lynchburg with an unassisted blast at 9:32. Then freshmen Abby Bunting took over, playing the best game of her young career. She scored at 19:08 off a Katie Kline assist before adding another at 32:12 off a Nicole Marburger helper.

Trailing 3-0 at halftime, Centre cut the lead to a mere goal when Julie Gates and Chelsea Klein found the back of the cage.

Lynchburg held off drive after drive by the Colonels in the second half until 15 minutes remaining when the Hornets were awarded a penalty corner. Lynchburg used the opportunity to take a timeout and compose itself. Four seconds later, Marburger drove in the Kline penalty corner for the insurance tally.

Lynchburg outshot the Colonels 20-18 while maintaining a narrow 8-6 margin in penalty corners.

Jordan Seeley had seven saves for LC while Kirby Roberts equaled that total with seven for Centre (11-2).

Lynchburg (10-4/4-0) plays against Virginia Wesleyan College (7-5/2-4) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game tomorrow at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
