Field Hockey set to Host First Round of NCAA Tournament

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College field hockey team is set to host an NCAA Tournament First Round game on Wednesday. The Hornets will take on Centre College in a rematch from a game on October 18.

Lynchburg, as part of Homecoming festivities, defeated the Colonels 4-2 in what was one of the best played games of 2013 by the Hornets. LC pulled ahead to a 3-0 halftime lead in the first matchup.

Lynchburg (16-4) will be making its ninth-straight NCAA appearance when the game starts on Wednesday after winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference bid for an eighth-straight year.

LC advanced to the Elite 8 in each of the past two seasons.

Centre (15-4) enter the tournament on the heels of a 2-0 loss to Rhodes College in the Southern Athletic Association championship. It was the third-straight year that Centre has lost to Rhodes in the conference championship game. The Colonels played one non-region game in 2013, the loss to Lynchburg.

The winner of Wednesday's game with play the nation's #4 seed, Christopher Newport University, on Friday.

The time of Wednesday's game will be 1 p.m.

- LC students with a valid ID can attend the match free
