Three Hornets Named to All-Region Field Hockey Team

CHANDLER, AZ – The Lynchburg College field hockey team had three student-athletes selected Monday to the 2013 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-South Region Team.

Seniors Melanie Tenney and Kelli Williams took home first-team honors, while fellow senior Nicole Marburger earned second-team accolades.

Williams finished fourth on the team in scoring with seven goals and four assists. Her game winners against Shenandoah and Wilkes helped the Hornets to a 16-win total.

Tenney, one of three Hornet captains, led the team with six defensive saves and was fifth in the conference in that category. She has helped Lynchburg to a 1.18 goals against average, best in the league. Both Tenney and Williams earned first-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) honors last week.

Marburger tallied five goals and seven assists to go with five defensive saves. She picked up her scoring as the season progressed, tallying four goals and two assists in the final eight contests.

Lynchburg finished the season 16-5, captured its eighth-straight ODAC title, and advanced into the NCAA Tournament for the ninth-consecutive season.
