CHANDLER, AZ – The Lynchburg College field hockey team begins the 2014 season as the 19th-ranked squad in NCAA Division III in a top-20 poll released Tuesday from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

Bowdoin College sits in the top spot, receiving 37 of 43 first-place votes, followed by Salisbury and Montclair State Universities. Lynchburg is the only Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) school represented in the poll.

Lynchburg faces three teams in the top 20: Salisbury, Christopher Newport University (#4) and the University of Mary Washington (#16).

Head coach Enza Steele's Hornets finished the 2013 season with a 16-5 record, their eight-straight ODAC title, and their ninth trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

LC opens the 2014 season this weekend on the road, traveling to Wesley College (DE) Saturday and Swarthmore College (PA) on Sunday.
