Field hockey adds on late to seal win at Bridgewater

Bridgewater, Va. -- Jackie Lerro (Royersford, Pa.) bookended a 5-2 victory with a pair of goals as the Lynchburg College field hockey team won its third-straight game Friday evening over Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Bridgewater.

The Hornets led 2-0 at halftime, but Bridgewater cut the deficit to one on two occasions after intermission. But Lynchburg caged a pair of goals in the final four minutes to pull away and seal the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Lerro tipped in a scoop by Nikki Simpao (Stafford, Va.) to give Lynchburg a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute, just after a penalty corner.

- Freshman Alexis Brown (Culpeper, Va.) added Lynchburg's second goal in the 32nd minute.

- After the Eagles scored to make it 2-1 just after halftime, Karissa LeMaire (Dewey Beach, Del.) scored her first goal of the season to double the deficit in the 52nd minute.

- Bridgewater scored again five minutes later, but Simpao and Lerro added late goals just 22 seconds apart in the 67th minute to ice the win.

 

LOOKING AHEAD

The Hornets will take a break from ODAC play this week with a trip to Stevenson on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
