Field hockey cruises by Dickinson for road win

Carlisle, Pa. -- University of Lynchburg's field hockey team made it a perfect three-win week Friday afternoon with a 5-1 non-conference, road win at Dickinson.

Sophomore forward Jackie Lerro (Royersford, Pa.) scored two goals and an assist for Lynchburg, and freshman midfielder Kaylie Truitt (Lewes, Del.) and sophomore forward Emily Dudley (Westminster, Md.) also scored. Truitt's goal was the first of her collegiate career.

Senior forward Nikki Simpao (Stafford, Va.) notched a goal and an assist. The All-American's 11 goals this season remain tied for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference lead.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laurel Nicks (Yorktown, Va.) made four saves for Lynchburg.

  • Lynchburg wasted no time taking the lead as Simpao took a feed from sophomore forward Jackie Lerro (Royersford, Pa.) just 1:10 into the game and finished to make it 1-0.

  • Senior forward Isabella Eldridge (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) then found Lerro in the circle in the 20th minute to help Lynchburg double its advantage.

  • Truitt and Dudley continued the barrage, scoring in the 25th and 34th minutes, respectively, to carry the Hornets into halftime with a 4-0 lead.

  • Each team added a goal after the half, with Lerro scoring in the 57th minute on a Simpao assist, and Dickinson's Sydney Engler breaking up the shutout in the 59th.



Lynchburg will get a short respite over Fall Break before heading to Harrisonburg, Va., for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference date with Eastern Mennonite on Monday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m.
