Randolph-Macon Rallies for 78-73 win over LC Men
ASHLAND, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team held a six-point second-half lead Wednesday evening but Randolph-Macon College rallied for a 78-73 victory in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The Yellow Jackets held a 35-33 lead at halftime, but LC started the second stanza strong. The Hornets took a 47-41 advantage with 16 minutes left following a three-pointer from junior guard Manny Hernandez. The Yellow Jackets quickly went on a run of their own, a 16-0 surge over the next 5:30 to stake a 57-47 edge. The Hornets whittled away at the deficit and an Austin Chillemi basket cut the lead to just one at 72-71 with just under one minute left. Two R-MC free-throws extended the lead to three, but Chillemi scored again with 13 ticks on the game clock. Randolph-Macon iced the game at the free-throw line.
Hernandez finished with a game-high 21 points, nailing 4-of-8 three-point attempts, and added five rebounds. Chillemi hit eight of his 12 attempts from the field for 17 points and tied for the game high with nine rebounds. The senior center scored the last nine points of the game for LC. Junior guard Xavier Parham contributed 11 points, six assists, six steals and five rebounds while senior forward Michael Wims had nine points and eight caroms.
Dylan Cole paced Randolph-Macon with 20 points and Lamar Giggetts added 14 points and six boards (2-3/1-0).
The Hornets (4-1/0-1 ODAC) return to action in Turner Gym Saturday against Piedmont College (GA) at 3 p.m.
