The Lynchburg College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our Hornet of the Week. The 18th student-athlete selected this year is men's basketball senior Austin Chillemi.
The senior had a great week for the Hornets in their two victories. In the win over Emory & Henry College, Chillemi posted 17 points and seven rebounds. He also helped greatly on the defensive end, blocking three shots and registering two steals. In the first match-up between LC and Shenandoah University since the 95-96 season, Chillemi posted a double-double in the victory, with 17 points and 13 rebounds. He continued his solid work on the other side of the ball, blocking two shots as well.
What do you like most about LC men's basketball?
I like how close the team has become and I have developed friendships that I will still have after I graduate. Coach Scott has done a great job with building our team chemistry.
How did the men's basketball team affect your decision to attend Lynchburg College?
It was the main reason I decided to become a Hornet. I developed a bond with the coaches during the recruiting process and once I got to see the campus and atmosphere I knew it was the school for me.
What are your aspirations after graduation?
I have decided to try to get into coaching at the collegiate level wherever that may be. My major is business so that is another option I will have as well.
What has been like to be part of a senior class that was picked last in your first preseason poll as freshmen and is now one of the best teams in the ODAC?
It means a lot to me and the other seniors to know that we made a difference in our four years here at LC. It's been the best four years of my life.
