Hornet Men Rally Late for 74-67 Win over EMU
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team finished the game with a 19-3 run to post a 74-67 come-from-behind victory Saturday over Eastern Mennonite University in old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
EMU held a 40-36 edge at halftime, and a 9-2 run to open the second half gave the visitors a 49-38 lead just three minutes in. LC whittled the lead down to four (57-53), but the Royals pulled back ahead by nine at 64-55 at the 7:20 mark. The Hornet defense held EMU to just one basket the rest of the way in the game-deciding surge.
Freshman Tyri Morring stole the ball and scored on a break-away at the five-minute mark to cut the lead to two. Junior Manny Hernandez put LC up for good with a three-pointer with 3:02 left, and iced the game with three free-throws in the closing seconds.
Freshman Austen Arnold scored a game-high 18 points, hitting 6-of-9 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. He also grabbed six rebounds, and fellow freshman Alex Graves came up big with 11 points and seven rebounds. Senior Austin Chillemi tallied 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks while Hernandez had 11 points and six rebounds.
Dajon Daniel had a team-high 15 points and five rebounds for Eastern Mennonite University (11-8/4-6 ODAC). R.J. Sims had 14 points and Owen Longacre had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
It is the Hornets first win over EMU since the 2005-06 season, a 87-76 LC victory behind 29 points from Steven Echols.
