Big Second Half Leads Lynchburg to 81-70 Victory over Shenandoah

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team outscored Shenandoah University 46-33 in the second half to escape with an 81-70 victory Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

Avery Green started the second half with a layup to put the visitors up 39-35 before Lynchburg went on an 8-0 run.

Alex Graves connected on a jumper a minute after Green's layup before knocking down a pair of free throws on Lynchburg's next possession. Layups by Gary Boone II and A.J. Hamilton netted the home Hornets the 43-39 lead.

Zack Burnett scored eight points in a 1:20 stretch late in the second half to pull away. Still up by four, Burnett knocked down a jumper sandwiched by two 3-pointers to give Lynchburg a nine-point lead, 69-60, with 3:44 remaining.

Jared Carithers led all scorers with 31 points for Shenandoah (3-2/0-1) while Green contributed 21. C.J. Rudisill had 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Manny Hernandez led Lynchburg with 18 points and nine boards. Graves contributed 16 points and nine caroms while Andrew Simmons scored 11 and added four assists. Burnett finished with 10 points, all coming in the second half, to go along with eight boards.

Lynchburg (3-1/2-0) hosts Ferrum College (3-2) at 7 p.m. Monday evening in a non-conference match-up.
