Wrighten, Greene lead men's basketball past Susquehanna

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – Lynchburg College's men's basketball team started the weekend off strong with a 73-65 win over Susquehannah University in the first round of the FNCB Bank Monarch Classic in McGrane Gymnasium in Wilkes-Barre.

Sophomore Chance Greene (Creedmoor, N.C.) and junior Austin Wrighten (Woodbridge, Va.) topped the boards with 19 points each. Wrighten dominated under the board with six rebounds and three assists. Hornets guard Devante' Young (Charlotte, N.C.) collected seven assists, four steals, and three rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Hornets took a 7-5 lead four minutes into the first half after a layup from freshman forward from Reggie Davis (Greensboro, N.C.), and Lynchburg never looked back.

  • Susquehanna tried to fight back in the second half and came close in the with 18 minutes to play after a 3-pointer from Ryan Traub making the score 43-47. But Lynchburg went on an 8-0 run to clinch the game.

 

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will face host King's College, which beat Penn State Hazleton in the first round, on Saturday afternoon. The championship game will begin at 3 p.m.
