Men's hoops can't skate by Polar Bears

Gallatin, Tenn. -- The Lynchburg College men's basketball team returned to action Friday afternoon, falling 84-64 to Ohio Northern in the first round of the Music City Classic at Volunteer State Community College.

Sophomore guard Chance Greene (Creedmoor, N.C.) led the Hornets with 19 points, 12 of which came in the first half, but Lynchburg was unable to overcome a 20-point first-half deficit.

Sophomore forward Cody Lang (Madison Heights, Va.) scored a career-high 11 points to go with a team-leading seven rebounds in his first-career start, while junior guard Devante' Young (Charlotte, N.C.) scored 14 points.

Records: Ohio Northern 7-3, Lynchburg 5-5

Venue: Moore Gymnasium, Volunteer State Community College, Gallatin, Tenn.



- The Polar Bears shot a scalding 65.2 percent from the field in the first half, opening up a 20-point lead late in the period. Lynchburg cut the deficit to 12 by halftime but could never wrestle the lead into single digits.

- Greene led all Hornets scorers with 12 points at halftime. Young scored a dozen points in the second half.

- Ohio Northern finished the game on a 7-0 run.



Lynchburg will take the court again Saturday in the second round of the Music City Classic. The Hornets will play Wisconsin-La Crosse at 6 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Central Time).
