Men's basketball falls to Roanoke Maroons

Lynchburg, Va. –  Lynchburg College's men's basketball team fell Wednesday evening in a key Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup, 100-74, to visiting Roanoke. It was the first time this season the Maroons eclipsed the century mark.

The Hornets received a solid effort from junior forward Connor Schroeder (Blacksburg, Va.) put in 17 points and shot an efficient 7-for-9 from the field and made all three 3s he took. 

Roanoke wing Joe Mikalauskas led the game in scoring as he contributed 20 points while also adding four rebounds for the Maroons. Freshman guard Jorden Davis followed up with a solid effort as he knocked down five of 11 3-point shots and ended the game with 19 points. Davis also played standout defense as he had a game high in steals with five. Roanoke set a school record with 18 3-pointers in the game.

  • Lynchburg only spent a total of 36 seconds in the lead the entire game as Mikalauskas hit a three to put the Maroons up 7-5 early in the first half. The Maroons never looked back as they jumped out to a quick 20-10 lead with 13:49 left to go in the first period.

  • The conclusion of the first half saw three Roanoke players eclipse double digit points, while Lynchburg's first-half high scorer was senior forward Logan Seacrist (Fredericksburg, Va.) with nine points.

  • Roanoke hit the 100 point mark for the first time this season as Mikalauskas hit a jumper with 1:43 left to go in the contest.



Lynchburg will travel to Winchester, Va., to face Shenandoah's Hornets Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. in a game crucial to ODAC tournament seeding.
