The Lynchburg College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our Hornet of the Week. The 25th student-athlete selected this year is golf senior Matthew Lipscomb.
Matthew helped the Hornets win the LC Invitational this past weekend at the London Downs Golf Course in Forest, VA. He finished tied for 18th during the cold and wet tournament. However, he hit a hole-in-one on the difficult, par-3, 194 yard third hole. It was the first hole-in-one for a Hornet golfer in over ten years.
Why did you choose Lynchburg College?
I chose Lynchburg College because it fit all the qualities I was looking for when deciding on where to attend college. I could have gone to a bigger school, a school far from home, or somewhere close to home, but Lynchburg is just far enough from home and does not have an overwhelming population.
How did the golf team affect your decision to attend Lynchburg College?
The golf team had a big effect on my decision to come to Lynchburg because I had limited opportunities to play at any other schools that were not out of state.
What are your aspirations after graduation?
After I graduate, I hope to start a career in the IT field or possibly work at getting my Class A teaching license and become a golf teaching professional.
How did it feel to hit a hole-in-one and help the Hornets win the LC Invitational in adverse weather conditions?
When I hit the hole-in-one I didn't believe that it went in at first but my parents were up at the green screaming and hollering. I wasn't sure what to do when I realized it when in so I kind of just threw my club in the air and starting high-fiving people. It was good for our team to win our home tournament and get some confidence going into the start of the spring season.
