Shepherdsville, Ky. -- The Hornets Golf team opened their Spring season traveling to the Bluegrass State for the Heritage Hill Classic, hosted by Lawrence Tech University. Lynchburg finished Round 1 with a team score of 319 and sit in 7th heading into the final round.
The first round was plagued by wind gusting up to 20 mph and temperatures that did not break 45 degrees but freshman Carter Old did not seem to notice. Old, a Chesapeake, Va., had a strong showing finishing two-over with birdies sprinkled in across the 18 holes. He currently sits tied for 9th after the first day.
Junior Josh Irby was the other score in the 70s for the Hornets, fighting the blustery conditions to card a 78 while junior Joel Choi signed for an 81. Senior Jeff Brochetti was the final score that counted for Lynchburg at 86 while freshman Justin Wimmer, who was playing in his first collegiate tournament, rounded out the Hornets with an 88.
Round 2 of the Heritage Hill Classic will be tomorrow and the Hornets first tee time will be at 9:08 and the last will be at 9:40.
