St. Helena Island, S.C. -- The Lynchburg College men's golf team played to a 12th-place finish Tuesday on the final day of the TaylorMade/adidas Intercollegiate at Dataw Island Golf Club.

Lynchburg carded a three-round total of 976 (315-329-332) to finish 112 over par for the tournament.

The team battled through wind and rain Monday in the first two rounds of the tournament, the conditions affecting all teams' scores. Only one team -- tournament champion Greensboro -- carded a sub-300 round.

Senior Josh Irby (Clover, Va.) and junior Branson Terrell (Lynchburg, Va.) led the charge for the Hornets, tying for 18th place with scores of 237. They took different routes to get there, though. Irby rang in a 76 in his first round, following it up with an 81 in his second and an 80 in Tuesday's third 18 holes. Terrell rebounded from an 81-80 day on Monday to shoot 76 Tuesday in friendlier weather. The pair finished 16 strokes behind individual champ Levi Grogan of Greensboro.

Sophomores Carter Old (Chesapeake, Va.) and Russell Markley (Remington, Va.) both carded 79s in Monday's first round. Old finished with an 80 and an 83 to place tied for 36 at 26-over.

Lynchburg will return to action on Friday, March 23 with the start of the three-day, three-round Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
