#5 Men's Lacrosse Outlasts Ursinus 9-8

WASHINGTON, DC – The fifth-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team faced a stiff test Wednesday evening against Ursinus College, and the Hornets answered the challenge with a 9-8 victory in a game played at Georgetown University.

Each team scored two goals in the first period, the Hornet tallies coming 10 seconds apart from juniors Pat Ohrem and Joe Lisicky. The Bears' netted the first two goals of the second to take a 4-2 edge, but senior Matt Manzo found the back of the net to cut the lead to one. Each team would score another goal before intermission, LC's by senior attack Dylan Hoff, and Ursinus entered the break clinging to a 5-4 lead.

Lynchburg stormed out of the gate in the second half with four-straight scores, two from Hoff, one from junior Max Voumard and the fourth by Manzo, to go ahead 8-5 midway through the third stanza. The Bears showed no quit however, notching the next two goals to enter the final period down just one goal. Sophomore Thomas Rodenhouse added an insurance goal for Lynchburg at 11:13 of the period and neither team could find the back of the net until 12 seconds remained, when UC netted a late tally.

Hornet senior face-off man Matt Jernack won 14 of his 21 draw attempts, and senior Andrew Wilfong scooped six ground balls. Senior Franc Cook made 14 stops in net.

Mark Stratton scored two goals and added two assists for Ursinus (5-4). Dave Kraus also scored twice and T.J. Magnani made 11 saves.

The Hornets (9-1) look for their ninth-straight win this Saturday at Hampden-Sydney College. The important Old Dominion Athletic Conference match-up is slated for 1 p.m. in Farmville, VA.
