Lynchburg, W&L set to square off in ODAC Semi at Roanoke
FOREST, VA – With Tuesday's games in the men's lacrosse Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) first round in the books and the matchups set for the semifinals, a highly anticipated top-15 game is the reward for the Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team. The Hornets, the #2-seed in the ODAC tournament and ranked 13th nationally, will take on Washington and Lee University, who hold the #3-seed and 12th spot nationally.
With the new setup of the ODAC tournament, the #1-seed Roanoke College will host the semis and the final on back-to-back days. LC will play W&L at 4 p.m. Saturday and RC will play Randolph-Macon College afterwards. The championship will take place on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Washington and Lee and Lynchburg tied for second in the conference at the end of the regular season, with both teams finishing at 7-2 in league play. The Hornets received the #2 seed because of its overtime win at W&L on March 27. In the contest, LC was down 8-2 with seven minutes left in the third quarter. Lynchburg stormed back and forced overtime, with Campbell Armstrong scoring the game-winner.
The Generals advanced to this game by defeating Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday, 13-8. W&L used a 6-0 run early in the game to get out to a commanding lead. Reigning ODAC Player of the Week Cameron Dabir led the Generals with a hat trick.
Both teams come into the game with two of the top defenses in the conference. Hornet goalie Adam Davey and his Saturday counterpart Warren Berenis rank in the top-four of save percentage, goals against, and goals against average. Davey is first in save percentage and second in the other two categories, with Berenis being first in goals against average, third in save percentage, and fourth in goals against.
