2017 Season Preview: Men's Lacrosse

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Men's Lacrosse team earned a berth into the 2016 NCAA Tournament but lost to Gettysburg College in the First Round. With the 2017 season underway, the Hornets are using the tough loss as motivation and are looking to win an ODAC Championship and make a deep run into the NCAA Tournament.

The Hornets graduated key players but return a solid core of experienced players including senior Cole Barrett, junior Colin McGuire and sophomore Evan Lombardo. Barrett will be one of the anchors of a veteran Lynchburg defense, finishing 2016 with 21 caused turnovers and 32 ground balls. McGuire and Lombardo are the top offensive returners, with McGuire coming back as the top assist man after helping net 18 goals while Lombardo is the top scoring returner following a 30 goal season last Spring.

Similar to past seasons, Head Coach Steve Koudelka has compiled one of the toughest schedules in the nation with seven games slated against teams who are featured in the USILA/Nike Preseason Top 20. Teams include Salisbury (1st), York (Pa.) (7th), Cabrini (8th) and Amherst (9th).

The men will play host to the defending national champion Seagulls of Salisbury University this Saturday, Feb. 11th. The opening face-off and beginning of the season is set for 12:00 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
