From the Face-Off

Lynchburg, Va. - The Hornets hosted Randolph College in the battle of the Hill City. WildCats are coached by Lynchburg alumni Andy Sinclair who was a senior standout on the first Lynchburg team to bring home an ODAC Championship in 2003.

Game Breakdown

- Randolph would jump out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal coming from Ryan Campbell off the opening faceoff

- Senior midfielder Joey Giannaras would get the Hornets on the board with his first goal of the night

- Sophomore attackman Evan Lombardo put a shot under the cross bar two minutes later on an extra-man opportunity to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead with 7:24 remaining in the first quarter

- Randolph would answer quickly with a Graham Southwick goal to tie the score at two

- Lombardo scored his second extra-man goal of the night, this time off an assist from junior midfielder Colin McGuire to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter

- Just 40 seconds into the second quarter Randolph would tie the game on a great shot to the low corner from Shane Soghomonian

- Lynchburg would then go on a five goal run with unassisted goals from Lombardo, Giannaras, senior midfielder Chris Camarca and two from McGuire

- Soghomonian scored his second goal of the night for Randolph to make the score 8-4

- Sophomore attackman Andrew Thomas scored in transition off a Lombardo assist to give the Hornets a five goal lead

- Giannaras tallied his third goal of the night off a Camarca assist with just 15 seconds remaining in the half to give the Hornets a 10-4 lead at halftime

- Sophomore midfielder Nick Willertz scored dodging to the middle of the field off a sophomore Seamus McDonald assist just 13 seconds into the second half

- Lombardo scored 27 seconds later to give the Hornets a 12-4 lead with 14:20 remaining in the third quarter

- Senior midfielder Harrison Brennan scored next for the Hornets, dodging down the alley and slamming the ball into the low corner

- McGuire, Giannaras, and Lombardo all found the back of the net for the Hornets to give them a 16-4 lead before Soghomonian tallied his third of the day for Randolph

- Giannaras scored his fifth goal of the night to open the fourth quarter on an assist from junior attackman Shayne O'Brien

- Randolph would score back to back goals in the fourth with Ryan Campbell and Brett Pausic scoring unassisted goals to make the score 17-7

- Freshman midfielder Michael Githens dodged the alley, rolled back and fired a shot low to low that found the back of the net to bring the game to its final score of 18-7

Inside the Box Score

- Giannaras scored five goals on seven shots for the Hornets

- Lombardo had seven points on five goals and two assists

- Freshman Long-Stick Midfielder Jake Vignali won 3-5 faceoff attempts

- Freshman defenseman Tyler Gallagher was dominant on defense for the Hornets causing 3 turnovers and picking up 4 groundballs

A Look Ahead

The Hornets take on Hampden-Sydney College at 7:00 pm Saturday night on Shellenberger Field in an important ODAC game with major post season implications. Hampden Sydney defeated the Hornets 13-9 last year.
