Men's Lacrosse NCAA Quarterfinal Preview vs. #7 Denison

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg Men's Lacrosse team will travel to Granville, Ohio to take on the Denison University Big Red in a NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal game on Wednesday, May 17th. The opening face-off is set for 2:00 p.m. at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

The Hornets are coming off a victory over #5 York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon in their Third Round contest. A constant rainfall plagued York (Pa.) but it had little effect on the Third Round game or the atmosphere surrounding the contest. The fans and players were as lively as could be and a back and forth first period got the game started but the second period was far different, as Lynchburg outscored York (Pa.), 6-2 to hold an 8-3 lead at the half. The Spartans came out with some aggression in the second half but despite outscoring the Hornets in both the third and fourth periods, Lynchburg emerged victorious and solidifed a spot in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

The Big Red overwhelmed Illinois Wesleyan out of the gates, scoring 11 of the game's first 12 goals in the first 18 minute of the contest.  The result was a convincing 25-11 victory that propels Denison into the NCAA quarterfinals for the third time in four years and the 14th time, overall.

The two teams have met four times, with Denison holding a 3-1 advantage in the series. The two schools have met twice in the NCAA Tournament, first in 2005 and last in 2012. Lynchburg won the first meeting, 9-6, which came in the Second Round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament while Denison moved onto the Third Round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament following a 10-5 victory.
