Moore Sends Home Winner; LC Defeats R-MC 1-0
ASHLAND, VA – Luke Moore tallied his fourth goal of the year, as the Lynchburg College men's soccer team beat Randolph-Macon College 1-0 on Saturday. The second Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory for the Hornets leaves them as the only undefeated team in conference play.
The Hornets pressured R-MC the entire first half, outshooting them 8-2. Several shots were blocked or hit the post, while the best opportunities came late in the half off of a corner kick. Josh Hinkle took the service, but his header was saved by Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Chris Lowe, and the two teams went into the intermission tied 0-0.
The second stanza proved to be more physical than the first, with both teams committing several fouls early on. Michael Venegas earned a penalty kick for LC, but he sent his attempt just wide of the net.
Lynchburg would continue to attack the Yellow Jackets until the 62nd minute, when Moore broke through with the winner. The majority of remaining chances went to the Hornets, as the posts denied Moore on two separate occasions.
Lowe led R-MC (1-6-2 overall, 1-3 ODAC) with five saves on the day. Michael Releford kept his third clean sheet in as many games, stopping three shots along the way. The Hornets outshot the Yellow Jackets 19-5 in the game.
Lynchburg (3-5-2, 2-0-2) will continue its ODAC schedule on Wednesday, as LC hosts Roanoke College, with the first kick set for 7 p.m.
