Moore Gets Hornets Out to Quick Start, Defeat Quakers 2-0
GREENSBORO, NC – Luke Moore sent a rebound of his own shot into the back of the net and assisted on another tally, to lead the Lynchburg College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Guilford College Wednesday night. LC recorded its second straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) road shutout.
The first half began with the Quakers getting the first shot, but it was blocked before it reached goalie Michael Releford. Lynchburg then stormed down the field with Tom Titus and Tim Clancy both firing blasts wide of the goal. GC came back down, and Rory Molleda had his shot blocked as well.
The Hornets pushed the ball forward, and Moore registered his first shot of the night. Michael McVane made the save, but Moore picked up the loose ball and scored his fifth goal of the season.
LC continued to pressure Guilford the rest of the half, forcing McVane to stop four more shots, to preserve the one-goal deficit.
In the second, each team went back and forth with scoring opportunities. Neither side came through until Lynchburg substitute Tajee Harley scored at 68:14. There would be no more shots on goal the rest of the game, as the Hornets took the victory.
McVane led the Quakers (8-7 overall, 5-4 ODAC) with six saves in the game. LC outshot its opponents 19-9 and earned six corner kicks to Guilford's three on the night.
Lynchburg (5-6-4, 4-1-4) returns home on Saturday for Homecoming. LC takes on Bridgewater College and will honor the seniors prior to the 4:30 p.m. start time.
