Hornets Travel to Newport News; Drop Match to CNU 3-1

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team traveled to face off against Christopher Newport University on Wednesday and lost 3-1 in non-conference play.

The Captains wasted no time getting on the board in the first half, with Ryan Balfour scoring a goal just 1:41 into the game. The Hornets would strike back at 38:29 with a goal by freshman Ben Grossfuss assisted by sophomore Tim Clancy, tying the score at 1-1.

CNU got the better of LC in the second half, adding two more goals to put the final score at 3-1, with goals scored by Caleb Lewis and Preston Key.

Senior Jonathan Sheffield played all 90 minutes in goal for the Hornets, and recorded seven saves. Sean Killion saved one ball for the Captains.

The Hornets' (3-3-1) next match will be at home against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Washington and Lee University on Saturday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m.
