Q and A with Hornet of the Week Chaz Ashton
The Lynchburg College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our Hornet of the Week. The fourth student-athlete selected this year is men's soccer senior Chaz Ashton.
Ashton had the best week in his Hornet career these past seven days. The senior had his first career two-goal performance as the Hornets defeated Salisbury University, 2-1, Wednesday in double-overtime. Ashton followed up that effort with an assist on Saturday's game-winning goal as Lynchburg defeated Randolph-Macon College, 3-0, to move to 1-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
You just picked up your first career two-goal performance, and then followed it up with an assist on Saturday. What was working right for you this past week?
Both games were huge team wins. The only thing that was going for me was that I was in the right place at the right time. Other than that I have to give all the credit to my teammates. We all worked so hard that these wins and our play finally came together.
What is your favorite thing about Lynchburg men's soccer?
My favorite thing about LC men's soccer is being able to hang out with all the guys every day. We are a family on and off the field.
What do you like most about Lynchburg College?
The thing I like most about Lynchburg College is being part of the community here and especially being part of this great team.
How has being a captain for the men's soccer team changed you as a leader and a player?
It has made me more responsible and it has helped me to see how important it is for a team to mesh together to perform at a high level. I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to be in this position of pulling the team closer.
