Hornets Rally Late; Fall Short to W&L 4-2

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team rallied in the second half against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Washington & Lee University on Saturday at home, but came up short, losing 4-2.

The Generals capitalized early in the game with a goal by Parker Wolfinger off an assist by Ted Hurst at 14:19. Twelve minutes later, W&L increased their lead to 2-0 after a goal by Zach Colby.

A minute into the second half, the Generals scored again, upping their lead to 3-0, after another goal from Colby, assisted by Matthew Carl. Trailing by three goals, the Hornets started their comeback attempt at 74:07 when senior Chaz Ashton fired in a goal assisted by sophomore Tim Clancy, making the score 3-1. LC would tighten the gap even more after sophomore Daniel Jobrack fired in a goal at 82:37 to cut the lead to 3-2. The Hornets made a strong effort to come back, but a late W&L goal from Ted Hurst sealed the deal for the Generals to put the final score at 4-2.

Senior Jonathan Sheffield played all 90 minutes for the Hornets and recorded two saves. Albert Civitarese saved eight balls in goal for Washington & Lee (4-0-4/2-0-1 ODAC) including several large second half stops.

Lynchburg (3-4-1/1-1 ODAC) will be back in action on Tuesday when they will travel to Hampden-Sydney College at 7 p.m. in another ODAC matchup.
