Hornets Fight in OT; Tie H-SC 1-1
Hampden-Sydney, VA – Defense was a constant as the Lynchburg College men's soccer team tied Hampden-Sydney College 1-1 on Tuesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The Tigers capitalized quickly in the game, after Robert Kerby scored a goal at 6:54 off of an assist by James Lawrence. Down 1-0, the Hornet defense stepped up and did not allow any more goals.
The second half, like the first, was filled with good defensive play by both teams. The pressure was mounting for the Hornets, but the offense finally broke through late in the game. Junior Luke Moore lofted the ball over Hampden-Sydney goalie Cameron McFarlane at 85:22 to even the score at 1-1 and send the game to overtime.
The defensive intensity continued into overtime and neither team would bend, ending the game in a 1-1 tie.
Senior Jonathan Sheffield played all 110:00 for LC and saved three balls. McFarlane recorded five saves in goal for the Tigers (4-3-2/1-1-1 ODAC). Lynchburg had a slight advantage in shots 18-14, while Hampden-Sydney lead in corner kicks 7-2.
The Hornet men (3-4-2/1-1-1 ODAC) will be back in action on Friday, October 4 when they will travel to face Shenandoah University in another ODAC matchup at 7 p.m.
