Men's soccer wins 10th straight

Lynchburg, Va. -- Four different Hornets found the back of the net as the Lynchburg College men's soccer team remained unbeaten in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play with a 4-0 home win over Guilford College.

The win marked No. 10 in a row for LC, which has allowed just one goal over that stretch. It was the Hornets' 11th shutout of 2017.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Hornets drew first blood in the fifth minute as Jack Ashby (Lewes, Del.) chased down a rebounded Sherman Mitchell (Southbury, Conn.) shot and scored it into the open net.

- Mitchell put his own name in the scorebook in the 28th minute, scoring after Abibi Osman (Charlottesville, Va.) centered the ball to the sophomore at the top of the box.

- Senior captain Nate Berning (Chesapeake, Va.) added a score just after halftime, a 50th-minute goal assisted by Fredy Flores (Alexandria, Va.).

- Jon Mackey (Leesburg, Va.) added the last Hornet score, hammering home a cross off the foot of Clay Van Gieson (Gloucester, Va.) in the 64th minute.

 

LOOKING AHEAD

The team will return to the home turf at Shellenberger on Saturday, Oct. 21 for a 7 p.m. Homecoming match with conference foe Randolph-Macon.
