Greensboro, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team cruised to a 2-0 victory over Guilford Saturday evening on the road, scoring twice in a 30-second span to earn its second Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory of 2018.

Senior midfielder Dan Friedberg (Blacksburg, Va.) scored the game-winner for the Hornets -- his second-career goal -- and Lynchburg capitalized on a Quakers own goal less than a minute after.

The teams celebrated Guilford's efforts with the Vs. Cancer Foundation Saturday as well. Funds raised went to the pediatric oncology unit at Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., and brain tumor research efforts through the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

  • Lynchburg broke the tie in the 30th minute when Friedberg deposited the ball into the net from 30 yards out on an assist from sophomore defender Bhayle Kearns (Broad Run, Va.).

  • Shortly after the goal, Guilford played the ball back to its keeper, who mishandled the pass and watched it trickle into the goal for a 2-0 Hornets lead.

  • The Hornets were unable to add insurance in the second half, but senior goalkeeper Dylan McLaurin (Stafford, Va.) collected two of his three saves in the second half to preserve his sixth shutout of the season.

Lynchburg returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 25 on Shellenberger Field against archrival Roanoke at 7 p.m. The Hornets will celebrate Central Virginia United Night. Tuesday is also the team's CODE RED match, encouraging all Lynchburg student-athletes to come out in support of a pivotal contest.
