LC Men's Tennis Swings Past Averett University 5-1

DANVILLE, VA – The Lynchburg College men's tennis team traveled to Averett University on Thursday, defeating the Cougars 5-1 in non-conference play.

Seniors Derek Kegerreis and Owen Landon teamed up two win 8-2 at #2 doubles, while junior Matt Karvelas and freshman Tyler Long won at #3 doubles 8-0.

Freshman Josh Johnson competed at #4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2, while Long won 6-1, 6-0 at #5 singles. Junior Blake Underwood took #6 singles 6-1, 6-0 in his first collegiate action.

Karvelas competed at #1 singles and dropped the first set 4-6, and was leading 6-5 in the second but the match was not finished. Kegerreis had the same situation at #2 singles. He dropped the first set 1-6 and was leading in the second 3-2. Landon competed at #3 singles and was ahead 6-0, 3-0, but the match also was not finished.

The Hornet men's squad (1-0) was set to face off against non-conference opponent Greensboro College on Saturday, February 23, but the match was moved to a future date due to potential weather moving into the Lynchburg area. The LC Hornet men will travel to compete against Ferrum College on Wednesday, March 6 at 2 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
