LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College athletic department has announced the hiring of Ryan Fitzwilliam as the new men's and women's head tennis coach.

"I would like to thank Dr. Toms for the opportunity to lead the men's and women's tennis teams at Lynchburg College," Fitzwilliam said. "My goal is to help grow and improve the programs; being competitive in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) is of paramount importance."

Fitzwilliam most recently served as the assistant men's tennis coach for two years and assistant women's coach for one year at Liberty University where he handled recruiting, travel coordination and equipment purchasing.

Prior to Liberty, he was the Director of Tennis at Boca Raton Christian, leading the 2011 girls team to an undefeated spring season.

Fitzwilliam is the Founder and Vice President of Match Point Ministries, Inc., a premiere tennis academy for junior and professional players. He handled on-court training and tournament travel while also networking with pro players, coaches and families.

"A good work ethic, character, and sportsmanship are key attributes to any program and these are qualities that I will expect from our student-athletes," Fitzwilliam said.

Fitzwilliam also has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the professional ranks, serving as the coach for Vincent Spadea, ranked in the top 20 in the world in 2009. He also served as the training partner for former #1 and multiple grand-slam winner Justine Henin and 2013 Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli.

"I look forward to the journey of coaching and mentoring these players. It is important for me to know that I have fostered an environment where the players can excel both on and off the courts," Fitzwilliam stated.

Fitzwilliam attended the University of South Florida on a tennis scholarship before receiving his Bachelors of business administration in marketing from Florida Atlantic University.
