LC Indoor Track and Field Finishes Season at VT Final Qualifier
BLACKSBURG, VA – Members of the Lynchburg College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed Saturday at the VT Final Qualifier. Athletes from Division I, II, and III schools competed in order to attempt to qualify for the National Championships, which take place next weekend.
On the men's side, six athletes set season bests. In the mile, junior Nolan Compton and senior Lawrence Minor ran the mile in 4:20.50 and 4:23.59 respectively, and they finished first and second among Division III athletes. Senior Reid Taylor followed his runner-up performance at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Championships with his best time in the 800 meter dash. Taylor ran the 800 in 1:57.89. James Bell had another successful day, setting season bests in the 60 meter hurdles and the 60 meter dash. The senior ran the hurdles in 8.77 seconds and the dash in 7.73 seconds. Thrower Greg Wilson continued his solid season in the weight throw. Wilson set a career best with a distance of 52'4.75".
On the women's side, LaCear Hubbard finished second among Division III competitors in the long jump, finishing at 16'11.5". Kori Penick also finished second among athletes from Division III in the shot put. Penick's throw reached 39'8.50".
The VT Final Qualifier concludes the indoor track and field season for both teams. The outdoor track and field season will begin on March 17 with the Hornets hosting the Dr. Jack M. Toms Open.
