Hornets Finish up at Liberty Collegiate Invitational
LYNCHBURG, VA– The Lynchburg College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed its weekend at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. The Hornets sent athletes to compete at the meet which featured many Division I, II, and III schools, and for the second day in a row, career bests were established.
Early on in the day, freshman Katie Miller set a personal best in the 100 meter dash, with a time of 13.61. Freshman Tracy Estelus was the second highest finisher among Division III competitors in the 400 meter race. Her career mark of 1:01.39 put her sixth overall. Junior Carly Pleines set a personal best in the steeple chase with a time of 13:37.82, and was the best finisher among Division III athletes. Kori Penick had another successful day in the shot put, beating all other throwers from Division III schools with a distance of 38'6.25".
On the men's side, the relay teams had a strong showing, finishing first among Division III teams in both the 4X100 and 4X400 meter relay teams. For the former, Rachad Davis, Zachary Kezar, Tristan Boysaw, and Evan Ellison posted a time of 43.03. In the 4X400 race, Ellison, Curtis Whitlow, Boysaw, and Reid Taylor took third overall in 3:26.21. Davis posted another strong time in the 110 hurdles, finishing third overall at 15.19 seconds. Thrower Greg Wilson continued his successful outing at Liberty, with an outdoor best in the shot put, measured at 46'6.25". In the men's high jump, freshman Jared Bloomquist finished second overall with a leap of 6'4.25".
The Hornets will use next week for rest, as they prepare for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship, which will take place at Lynchburg College on April 20th and April 21st.
