James Bell Competes at First Day of Nationals
CLAREMONT, CA – Lynchburg College men's track and field athlete James Bell competed in the first day of the decathlon at the Division III National Championship meet, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. He currently sits in 17th place with 3281 points. Richard Roethel from Christopher Newport University leads the competition with 3987 points.
Bell started off the day running a season-best in the 100 meter dash in 11.77 to garner 697 points. In the second event, he earned 540 points with a leap of 18'11.75" in the long jump.
Bell finished sixth in the shot put competition. He received 574 points with a heave 37'7.75". His best showing came in the high jump, taking fourth with a height of 6'4" and 740 points. Bell ended the night winning section 1 of the 400 meter dash in 51.85, adding 731 points to his day. The time was a lifetime best for the senior.
