Hornets Set Top Marks at Final Qualifier
BLACKSBURG, VA—With the indoor season winding down, select members of the Lynchburg College men's and women's track and field team traveled to the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier on Saturday. Going against top mainly Division I and II competition, several season and career bests were set.
Tom Sippie, coming off last week's stellar Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship meet, ran a career-best, 48.65 in the 400 meter dash. It currently puts him 14th in the nation, which is just outside the 13 automatic national qualifiers. He also broke the school-record in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line in 22.14 seconds.
Thrower Greg Wilson also set a career-best in one of his events. Wilson's toss of 52'6.75" was the top for Division III throwers in the event. Eric O'Connor set an indoor best in the pole vault, reaching a height of 14'6.75". Nolan Compton also PRed, finishing the mile in 4:19.37, which was the second-best Division III runner.
The Hornets end the indoor season, with the national indoor championships being held next weekend at North Central College in Naperville, IL. The outdoor season will begin on March 16, as LC hosts the annual Dr. Jack M. Toms Meet with events beginning at 10 a.m.
