Hornets Prepare for ODAC Championship

GREENSBORO, NC – With the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championship less than a week away, the Lynchburg College men's and women's teams warmed up at the annual Aggie Invitational on Saturday.  With teams from Division I, II, and II competing, several Hornets had standout performances.

On the men's side, Tom Sippie once again showed why he is a national champion.  He ran in the 200 meter dash and finished as the second-best Division III runner in the event at 21.78 which is also the second-best time in the ODAC this year.

The 4x100 meter relay team posted the top time of the season.  Brian Fuentes, Zachary Kezar, Evan Truman, and Rachad Davis combined to cross the line in 43.08.  Truman and Kezar both set career bests in the outdoor long jump, at 21'11.75" and 21'4", which was good for first and second among D-3 jumpers respectively.

The throwers had a successful day as well.  Carlo Del Donno finished second in the javelin throw with a season best of 163'8".  Greg Wilson once again won the hammer throw with a toss of 171'1", which was 26' better than the runner-up.  He won the shot put with a career best in the outdoor, at 51', and he finished second in the discus behind an unattached competitor.  Spencer Latham took second in the shot and fourth in the discus and hammer.  Hunter Bailey finished third in the shot.

Brian O'Dea set a career best in the pole vault, finishing second in the competition clearing a height of 14'5.25".

For the women, Lauren Lacourciere set a new career best in the 1500 meter run, crossing the line in 5:21.  Aleshia Washington ran the second-best time in the ODAC this year for the 100 meter dash, running it in 12.65.

Nicole Williams and Shae Allen both ran career bests in the 200 meter dash.  Williams crossed in a time of 27.27 with Allen the next finisher in a time of 27.48.
